This class focuses on the skills needed to effectively tell a story, including both mechanics and style. We will read some short stories and excerpts to see these skills in action, then apply them to our own writing. Students will write several short stories of their own, then choose one to revise and expand at the end of the class. Sessions will be interactive and geared toward helping students improve on their narrative writing. About 30-45 minutes of homework should be expected after each session. By the end of the class, students will be able to apply skills in description, dialogue, and characterization to their narrative writing.
