Important note for RCW4A and RCW4B classes:

The Lord of the Rings is an epic modern classic in literature. It was originally written as a 6 book saga, but was re-packaged into the three book trilogy we know today: The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, and The Return of the King. However, the structure stayed the same and therefore each of the current books is broken into two smaller books.

RCW4-B

In this twelve session class we will read the second half of The Two Towers and all of The Return of the King, which combined contain the second three of the original books. Each week, students will independently read approximately four chapters and write responses to essay and critical thinking prompts. In class, we will discuss various aspects of the book and mythic structure, as well as writing skills. The final assignment in this class will be to write an analysis essay based on what was learned in class.

This class is appropriate for grades 7-12, though RCW4A is a mandatory prerequisite to this class, as what is learned in this class will not make sense if a student has not completed the previous one.
