Creative Writing is a class focusing on the process of building a story. If your student has taken Literary Elements 1 & 2, then they have learned the fundamental elements of the story (character, plot, setting, theme, point of view) and some of the literary devices which make the story interesting (symbolism, motif, flashback, foreshadow, allegory, imagery). In this class we will look further into developing these elements as well as how to develop characters, create a mood, write believable dialogue, and build a story from beginning to end. Students will be expected to write three shorter assignments and two to three longer stories over the course of eight weeks. We will meet for 1.25 hours each week (one hour one day and a 15 minute one-on-one revision session later in the week) with about 30 minutes of homework each night. Sarah Garcia has an MA in Education with a BA in Sociology and a minor in English and Bible.
